Weekly Prep Thread 20 Apr - 26 Apr

Whatta week for the weather here! Was mid-seventies until Thursday, then had frost Thursday and Friday night, then back into the seventies and eighties! Weird.

Anyway, mizNCO took kidNCO to TX for a visit with her parents and it was up to me to cover the tomatoes, cukes, squash, peppers and other vegetables for those frost nights.

I don't think I lost any, all look good.

This week's prep activities included:

Got a shipment in from Long Life Foods
Purchased a few ounces of silver
Inventoried ammo

Anybody doing anything interesting out there?

Purchases this week:

Hand vacuum pump for sealing jars.
2 bags of oxy absorbers
Several 5lb bags of jasmine rice
Another 14 cans of spam
Grabbed case of hand soap on sale 10 for $10 at the local Krogers
A few more quarts of vegatable oil

Trying to find 1/2 gallon mason jars locally

Transformed office into food storage area. Moving food storage from small closet to pantry sure makes it look like you have ALOT less.

Bought 24 #10 cans of rice, beans and wheat.
Went shooting this weekend, good times, good times.
Bought 300 rounds 9mm to replace ammo from shooting and add to stock.
Worked on the garden, built compost container from scrap wood.
Built nest boxes for chicken coop.
Reinforced the bottom of fence with chickenwire to keep those suckers from sneaking underneath.

I went to my local grocery store today and the biggest bags of white rice they had were 25 pounds. Anyway at the checkout I was buying a couple of these and I managed to rip the hell out of one of them dumping 25 lbs of rice all over the cash register and the area around it.

Whoops. They gave me another bag and I didn't have to pay for that one even though I felt pretty damn bad.

Took a vacation this week. Visit to the state of Florida, great weather, but I somehow feel guilty that I'm not home working around the 'stead. There is so much work I need to be doing. Well the rest is well earned and it will hopefully give me new energy to attack the work when I return to Ohio the end of the week.

Thanks Andy, I even did some walking on the beach and fishing..., no luck yet on the fishing, but I won't be eating them if I do catch them as we're living in a motel.

Bought 25 pounds of rice, gallon olive oil.
Put up some tall poles at top of driveway, looking all over for a couple bleached skulls to post on top.
Any body have any extra skulls for trade or sale?

Thinking about buying a few more #10 cans of MH freeze dried food stuffs (whatever may be available at the moment). I recently purchased 1,000 rds of 5.56 and 4 30rd mags. I still need more mags. Also looking into portable water filtration. Picked up a case of those chafing fuel cans. I'm holding out on more silver for now. Need more SHTF preps. The recent earthquake sort of greased my wheels.
